Opening the season at home against the Imperial Tigers, the Bucs came up just a little short, losing 25-20. The Tigers averaged 5.0 yards a carry, amassing 150 yards to go along with 193 yards through the air. Mission Bay countered with 220 yards passing, but only five yards on the ground. Corey White, who played under Coach Pugh and alongside Toby Trout has been hired as the Head Coach at Whittier College. The Poets are in the SCIAC Division which features former Bucs players Teddy Buettner (Chapman) and Jack Ryan (Redlands). Ethan Silber transferred to Whittier after being recruited by Coach White. Coach White was featured on KUSI's Prep Pigskin Report and talked fondly of his time at Mission Bay High. His parents still live in Pacific Beach and attend Bucs home games. ...

Mission Bay had two players win KUSI-TV's Prep Pigskin Awards this year. Jevyn Higman won the "Like a Rock" award for being a leader on and off the field. Quarterback Trey Arnold won "Breakout Player of the Year". Also, Coach Tate was a finalist for the "Coach of the Year" award. Impressive.
